Falun

Falun is the head city in the Falun municipality and the county seat of Dalarna. The municipality has about 55,000 residents and the city 36,500. The city is on Lake Runn, 18 kilometers northwest of Borlänge and is an important industry and service town.

In recent years the service industry has grown significantly and now dominates the local economy. Among the large companies here, Stora Enso, Grycksbo Paper AB, Ericsson Network Technologies are notable. Falun is the administrative and cultural center for Dalarna with the county administrative board, county offices, county hospital, county library, county museum, county theatre, and the county music foundation. Falun is also an important city for tourism and since 2001 the Falun mine, Stora Kopparberget has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Several of Högskolan Dalarna's buildings are in Falun. Next to the ski games arena - an area for outdoor activities with the ski jumps as landmarks - is Campus Lugnet, Högskolan Dalarna in Falun. The university also has activities in the Dalaregement area, where Mediehuset, a hypermodern centre for media education is located.

Falun is known for its rich musical and cultural life. Interesting events happen year-round, including Falun Då (Falun Then) and Falun Street which attract many visitors. The city centre features a rich restaurant and pub life.
