Borlänge
Borlänge is the head city in the Borlänge municipality and Sweden's 25th largest city with about 47,000 residents. It sits on the Dalälven River 18 kilometers southwest of Falun and is an important industrial and commercial city. Borlänge has been characterised as a typical industrial town with leading steel and paper industries but this has changed in recent decades. Today this leadership is dominated by SSAB Tunnplåt Borlänge and Stora Enso Kvarnsveden.
Borlänge also has well-developed private and public service sectors. Among other things, the centers for the county's political and retail trade as well as road, rail, and air transportation are here. Both the Swedish Road Administration (Vägverket) and the Swedish Rail Administration (Banverket) have their head offices in Borlänge. In recent years the municipality and the business sector have invested in developing and presenting Borlänge as a trade centre and conference city. The Kupolen shopping centre is an example of this. The Dala Airport lies immediately south of the city.
Just a stone's throw away from the train station is Campus Framtidsdalen, the name for Högskolan Dalarna in Borlänge. Here education is centred around information, technology, transport, economics, entrepreneurship and tourism - all with a clear focus on transportation and communication. Teknikdalen has more than 40 cutting-edge companies in the Framtidsdalen area and is just steps away from the university.
Borlänge is known for its rich musical and cultural life. Interesting events happen year-round, but the Peace & Love festival is the biggest and attracts several thousand visitors every year. The city centre features a rich restaurant and pub life. There are also excellent conditions for sport and outdoor activities with modern sports facilities and training areas.
