Toofan Salehpour, Hanna Melin, and Hugo Macêdo are all students in the Media Communications Programme, and this week the Municipality of Falun (Falu kommun) has assigned them the task of blogging from The 20th International Safe Community Conference 2011.
"It's an exciting project to be involved with," says Hugo Macêdo. "It feels as though we're helping and contributing to the municipality's work hosting the conference. It's giving us a lot of experience, and the questions being discussed are important. I've seen new things and met many new people."
The reason the conference is taking place in Falun is that in 1995, the world organisation WHO certified the Municipality of Falun as a safe and secure community, one of only a few in the whole of Sweden.
More than 400 researchers and practitioners from the whole world have come to Falun to discuss safety issues and everyday problems as well as preventative work.
The students have been writing blogs and twitters directly from the conference, both in Swedish and in English. The target readership is the municipality's 50 000 residents, as well as participants and other interested parties.
