Solar boat "Midnightsun"

The solar boat "Midnightsun" was designed for participation in the soloar boat race "Frisian Solar Challenge" in the Netherlands 2008. Since the races the boat has also been used for demonstration, exhibition and education in solar engineering. The successful participation in the contest has already generated increased interest in solar boats which was reflected by an active-media coverage and calls for race to fairs and theme days. The project enables us  to participate in similar events to disseminate information and knowledge about solar boats and PV technology among young people and teachers in primary and secondary schools. Another key points of the project is to prepare for successful participation in the next solar boat race 2010 in the Netherlands. With the help of the project, we want to motivate Swedish companies and schools to design and develop solar boats. The project funding is used to coordinate meetings with interested parties and provide a platform for further development and promotion of the solar boat in future.

 

 

A group of the current Master students at Högskolan Dalarna has started to work on new ideas for further improve the solar boat so that it can be used for the race but also for demonstration and advertisment for solar energy. The studens are also working on new designs of solar boats fore leisure applications.
