Degree and Course Certificates
When you have completed your studies, you may apply for a Degree Certificate or a Course Certificate. These certificates prove that you have fulfilled the requirements of the degree or course, and can therefore be awarded course credit or a degree.
The Course Certificate can be issued after the completion of the entire course and after grades have been set. Normally you will receive a Course Certificate within two weeks after applying for one so long as the course was completed at the time of your application. You will receive a course syllabus together with the Course Certificate.
Application for a Degree Certificate will be assessed against national and local degree regulations. The time of processing is regulated to a maximum of eight weeks after a complete application has been registered.
Types of Degrees
Since July 1, 2007, higher education in Sweden has undergone a radical reform and is now structured in three distinct levels: First Cycle, Second Cycle, and Third Cycle. All degrees are awarded at one of these levels.
At Dalarna University, we issue two types of First Cycle and Second Cycle Degrees: General Degrees and Professional Degrees.
First-Cycle General Degrees:
Högskoleexamen, 120 Credits (Higher Education Diploma) and Kandidatexamen, 180 Credits (Bachelor of Arts/Science)
Second-Cycle General Degrees:
Magisterexamen (Master of Arts/Science 60 Credits) and Masterexamen (Master of Arts/Science 120 Credits)
In addition to the general degrees, there are professional degrees. Dalarna University has the right to issue a number of First- and Second- Cycle professional degrees.
The degree is written in Swedish and includes an English translation in the same document. The degree also includes a description of the degree in English. This is known as a Diploma Supplement.
