Young International Researchers Meet at Dalarna University

Attendee at the Colloquium

In total, nine doctoral students from five countries are in Borlänge to present their respective research. During their time in Sweden, they will also make visits to a number of companies, such as Sandvik, SSAB, ABB, Outokumpu and Ovako.

"I hope that my research will be appreciated by the companies I will be visiting and that they understand its value within the steel industry," states Abhinav Varshney, who is a researcher in the field of metallurgy with a focus on steel with the best combination of durability and malleability.

His experiences thus far in Dalarna have been positive and employment in the region in the future is something he is not counting out.

Similarly, Mengij Yao from Max Planck Institute, whose research focus is light-weight steel, is positive about her visit here.

"Here we are able to meet others conducting similar research and exchange ideas while also building valuable contacts for the future. It is important that academia and industry meet in such a context as this one so that there is an understanding as to how our research can be applied in reality," states Mengij Yao, who goes on to state how impressed she is by the strong and long tradition Dalarna has working within the steel industry.

The symposium will run until August 19 and will conclude in Stockholm with a diploma ceremony and lunch at Jernkontoret.

Hosting and organising the conference are Dalarna University and Triple Steelix.
